Answers to your frequently asked questions

We like all our customers to be informed about important matters relating to our ice cream. For this reason, we have listed here the answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Q. How Healthy is Ice Cream?

Ice cream is an excellent source of food energy. The fact that its ingredients are almost completely assimilated makes ice cream a desirable food for growing children and for those looking to put on weight. At the same time, the controlled use of ice cream is also suitable for those who need to reduce or do not wish to put on weight.

Very few other foods contribute so much food value in as attractive a form as ice cream does. As in all aspects of healthy eating though, variety and moderation are important.

Q. What makes ice cream go so icy?

When ice cream is allowed to warm up and is then re-frozen, ice crystals form as the frozen water melts and then refreezes. As a result of this recrystallization, the average ice crystal size increases which results in an icy, coarse texture.

Here are some handling and storage tips to minimize the risk of this happening:

  • Make ice cream the last item you pick up when you do your shopping.
  • Make sure that the retailer's freezer is cold enough, and that the ice cream is not packed above the freezer line. The product should be frozen and hard to the touch.
  • Take the ice cream straight home!
  • Make sure that your home freezer is working properly at minus 18 degrees Celsius or colder.
  • Try not to store ice cream in the front or top of the freezer where it is constantly exposed to changes in temperature.
  • When you have finished serving the ice cream, close the lid properly and return it to the freezer immediately.

Q. Can Polar Ice Cream products be refrozen after it has been thawed?

No. Polar Ice Cream products should not be refrozen if thawed. Related to the answer above, product thawing and refreezing creates large, objectionable ice crystals that cause a gritty texture and diminished quality.

Q. I am allergic to nuts. How can I be sure that your product does not contain any nut products?

Even though many of our products do not contain nuts as an ingredient, it is important to know that Polar Ice Cream does work with nut products at our plants. We cannot guarantee, therefore, that a particular flavour did not come into contact with any nuts.

Q. What do I do if I cannot find my favourite Polar Ice Cream product?

Polar Ice Cream would like all our factory shops to carry our entire product range. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. We recommend that you express your interest in purchasing a particular product to your local Polar Ice Cream stockist.

Q. How do I open a Polar Ice Cream factory shop?

Unlike many other manufacturers, Polar Ice Cream has no intention of merely selling its products to as many outlets as possible. Instead, we are constantly seeking motivated operators who choose the Polar brand because they believe it can help them achieve their goals through product excellence and superior customer service.

If you believe that you fit this profile and would like to operate a Polar Ice Cream factory shop, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
